A Little about me, Dr. Kristen Poe
My original plan was to go to medical school out of college. My Father is a retired Primary Care Physician, and has always been one of my biggest role models and supporters. During my final year at Assumption University, I was granted an internship with a large pharmaceutical company. This led to a fruitful career in pharmaceutical sales and an MBA in Marketing. Despite gaining great experiences, I still had a strong calling to help people and pursue a career in the medical field.
With time, soul searching, research, and personal experience, my passion and love for Holistic Health and Alternative Medicine grew. While raising and caring for three beautiful baby girls I obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Holistic Health, a PhD in Alternative Medicine, a Doctorate in Naprapathy, and a Board-Certification in Sexology by the American Board of Sexology https://americanboardofsexology.org/sexologist/kristen-poe/
In addition, I am an advisory board member of the American Naprapathic Association, Board Certified by the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, Board Certified by The American Board of Sexology and a Graston Technique® clinician.
My life has certainly taken me down many different roads, but I am finally living out my passion working in the medical field, and helping as many people as I can optimize their health and wellness.
My personal health revelation that lead me to Functional Health
You are probably wondering how I ever landed in the Functional Health world with such a diverse educational and professional background. In my mid-20’s, I found myself depressed, not taking care of myself, and feeling fatigue almost daily. I was making many poor health, nutrition and life choices. I made positive changes in my physical and emotional health, and became familiar with what it meant to have good nutrition.
I started exercising and working with a fantastic personal trainer Jen DiCandia and owner of NV Fitness in Worcester, and eating (and understanding) what it meant to have a balanced diet. This unlocked my passion for nutrition, and I soon became involved in fitness competitions for several years. I was fascinated to learn that just by eating well and choosing the right foods, I felt like a new person, not to mention achieving a physique I never thought would be possible. I also made better life choices that uplifted my spirit!
Growing up in a traditional Western medicine family, and having a lot of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, I have gained a lot of knowledge about allopathic medicine, or allopathy. I have the utmost respect for Western medicine, and have certainly had many instances in my own life, as well as the lives of my children, family members and friends, where I have been extremely grateful for the modern medical field and its cutting edge doctors, procedures, technology, and medicine. However, my own experiences as well as those of others have given me the opportunity to also see the ways alternative medicine and good nutrition can truly prevent and improve many medical conditions and symptoms. Research has shown significant statistical decreases in many diseases and comorbidities that exist today just by making proper eating and nutrition a focal part of our daily lives. This is where my journey of studying holistic health and alternative medicine began.
POE Holistic Health is born
I have a unique perspective when it comes to Functional Health. There are many instances in my own life, as well as the lives of some of my patients that require the synergy of Western and Holistic/Functional Health modalities, which have elicited tremendous results. On the contrary, there are some situations that can be remedied with lifestyle changes, nutrition, and alternative medicine alone.
There are many schools of thought when it comes to Alternative Medicine, but I strongly believe in a harmonious synergy of traditional Western medicine and alternative medicine for truly optimized health. This is where POE Holistic Health begins and why my tagline is, “live holistic but realistic!” POE represents my health vision and passion (and also happens to be my last name). POE stands for Personalized Optimized Essentials for healthy living.
Personalized Optimized Essentials are the tools that are needed to live a consistent and healthy lifestyle that will ultimately facilitate improvement in physiological and psychological health, and promote better daily functioning, performance, and stress management. The goal is to achieve a healthy and balanced Mind, Body and Spirit!
